I’m always throwing myself completely into whatever I’m working on, so I haven’t struggled with much. But if I were to talk about a difficult time, it would probably be the first time I was sent overseas (to an equipment facility in Brazil). The company left everything to me—from the initial meetings to doing the on-site work. Being in an unfamiliar environment and dealing with the language barrier was difficult, but I was so happy that I was able to take on the heavy responsibilities of an overseas supervisor. I was later sent to Poland as a supervisor, and was able to carry out my work there with confidence.
The new plant is huge—both the site and the facility itself—so you really get to stretch your wings. Our worksites are so friendly and open that I’m smiling constantly as I work. When we finish a difficult project, we all celebrate with a barbeque or a few drinks.
I want to step up my game and get some more professional qualifications. The company goes out of its way to support us in doing that, so I’m able to take on all kinds of new challenges. I had been working primarily in assembly, but I decided to take a leap and try operating processing equipment as a way to boost my skills. I wanted to see what I was capable of, and also be able to more quickly give our customers what they want. I’ve also had a blast working on team activities to make improvements to our work tasks.

I’m in charge of machine design, and am always trying to design devices and equipment that go beyond what customers ask for (in terms of low costs and eliminating wastefulness). I get together with the senior employees in my department and the sales team to brainstorm and come up with an image of the final product, so my mind is always running at full speed. I’ve been seconded to Toyota Motor Corporation since May 2020, so I’m currently working on a joint design team with the client. We’ve been racking our brains trying to tackle challenges from their perspective, and it’s been a both a thrilling and educational experience.
I worked at two other companies before coming here, and Sanmei Tec is hands down the place I’ve been able to learn the most. I think everyone has to chart their own course when it comes to growth, but this is an environment where you can really apply yourself if you have the motivation. I’m currently on an extended assignment at our client, and the experience has been really eye-opening thanks to all the different approaches they have to machine design work.
I found Sanmei Tec because I was looking for a company that was full of people that truly loved making machines. If that’s the kind of place you7re looking for, you’ll definitely have a blast here. I also strongly recommend it for people who like to think for themselves. I’ve worked at a couple other places, so I know what I’m talking about.

I’m in the design department, where I primarily work on retrofit designs for existing equipment and strength analyses for equipment. Strength analyses look at how strong a structure will be in an earthquake. I think I learn so much from my job because of all the different kinds of equipment I work on. My everyday conversations with the engineers and designers are incredibly enlightening.
The place is full of great people, so we have amazing work relationships. The senior employees look out for us, so we can overcome anything that comes up. The design office has separate desks, which is great in terms of helping us focus. We just moved to the new plant and the new office in March 2021, so the space itself is really comfortable.
Right now I’m mainly working on retrofitting existing equipment, but my goal is to someday be able to design new equipment on my own. It’s going to take a lot of knowledge and technical skill, but I’m excited to really go for it. The senior employees who have experience on long-term assignments at our clients give me all kinds of useful advice, and I’m eager to steadily build my skills so I can be like them.
